Woodhorn Museum

March 7, 2016

We went see the poppy exhibition originally from the Tower of London.  I had visited this once prior to our day trip, but  on our trip with the studio, the sun was splitting the sky which made the day much more enjoyable.  The way the poppies were displayed was awesome, pouring from the colliery wheel.

Some of us had a ride on the train too having a lovely view of the colliery and all surroundings including the lake which, until that time, I didn’t know was there. We had cream teas and then visited the miner’s exhibition.  This was work from the miners who worked daily in the pits.  The variation of work gave a good insight into what pit life was about.  There was some very moving work on the hardships the work entailed.  There was also background sounds of men working in the pits which helped with the idea of making you feel part of the work
